Pittsburgh, 9/26/06-- Tonight, Allegheny County (greater Pittsburgh, PA) voted 14-1 in favor of smokefree workplace legislation. The legislation includes all offices, restaurants, bars, and casinos. It also includes all indoor and outdoor property owned by a healthcare organization.
Months ago, Council president Rich Fitzgerald introduced the proposed law with nine co-sponsors stating, "We're not going to allow public health to be unprotected." Tonight, he carried out that promise. The bill goes to County Executive Dan Onorato for his signature or veto.
